10k shmem K

I've completely lost interest in the 10K I was going to run tomorrow morning. Maybe it's just the heartache over my shoes that is eating at me. But I think there's more to it than that. The course for the race tomorrow is billed as a fast mostly downhill course where you can get a PR. A couple years ago it was billed as a challenging course where you could test yourself on the hills. You had your choice actually between a 4k and a 10K. The 4k was mostly flat and the 10K gave you a gruelly hill workout. Now there's just the 10k and they run you down a gentle slope to the finish line. $35 please. Oh and here's a tech shirt with crap written all over it. I guess I'm left a little cold by a race whose main selling point is that it's easy. Then there's the $35. Man I could really use that $35 someplace else. I don't know, I'm just not into it.

Here's what I'm doing tomorrow morning. I'm planting the mums that my wife bought before they die. I'm taking the Garmin for a long ride in my Piranhas just to see how far I can go. I'm going to take my oldest girl to the soccer field and chase the ball around with her. I'll probably do a little more yard work and some swimming during the afternoon. Later on in the evening I'm watch the girls so my wife can have a night out with her friends. On her way out the door, I'm gonna hand her $35 and tell her to knock herself out. Should be a pretty good day.

  1. You could run the 10K on Sunday for free. No race shirt with lots of writing as a perk!

Hope your wife has a blast with the cash....well, not too much fun ;).

  2. How true. I blame the Garmin for my newly found elitist attitude.
